After riding in NY for the past few years, I've never actually learned why Old Forge charges a separate fee for their trials. Is there a historical reason for this? The reason I'm curious, is that this is the first year that I haven't purchased an old forge pass. With all of the great trails in NY, I just can't justify the extra cost. I just ride elsewhere. The southern tier, especially, has been my favorite as of late when open. And if not open, tug hill had more trails to ride than I could possibly get to with my work schedule.

So - my question to the community is 1. Why do they charge extra. And 2. Why is it worth while given the entire state of NY as a riding option.

It's not a criticism, mostly just curiosity. Old forge does have some great trails. I just can't figure out why it's worth extra money.

They have paid groomer operators.

Paid town groomer operators means more frequently groomed trails. I wish the Tug hill was paid operators, so we would have more consistent grooming. Really makes you appreciate all the volunteers from local clubs.

Totally Agree CampChick... sometimes it's just unbearable when it gets all whooped to the max.

If you’re not in the Old Forge area and have other options then it may not be worth it to you. Even with paid groomers, trails get beat by midday on the weekends. Old Forge gets a ton of traffic on the weekends. Can’t imagine how bad it would get without paid groomers.
